This is a single comic page I produced to enter the 2000AD Art Stars competition for the comics 45th Anniversary. Being a lifelong Dredd / 2000AD and comic fan I couldn't resist dusting off the tools to get something done. It was good to create comic art again.
My general flow was to use a rough plot outline. Thumbnail this out to get the pacing right and a concise story. Then I refined the thumbnails to a stage I felt was working, this also included rough lettering to ensure I could fit in what I required around the art.
I then produced a 3D Blockout with some purchased and custom models to crudely flesh the scene out and lock in camera angles and perspective.
After this stage I pencilled the page using the 3D blockout as a guide. Aesthetic changes were made along the way including designing many of the elements on the page (this was a bad idea, more prep work upfront for next time).
After that I followed a fairly traditional process.
